Please join Ethinvest for a free webinar on 18 September, 1 pm, with Mary Gaitho of the aid organisation Tearfund and Michelle Higelin at ActionAid to discuss the impact of deep aid cuts by the US, UK and Europe and how their organisations are working to fill the void around the world.
Overall aid from wealthy countries fell an estimated 7% in 2024 — a drop of roughly $22.7 billion — as governments shifted funds to defence and domestic spending. The Trump administration has announced intentions to cut an estimated $90.6bn in foreign aid over time, particularly targeting programs under USAID and overseas humanitarian/development programs. The UK plans to cut its overseas aid from 0.5% of national income to 0.3% by 2027, reducing the budget from $31.4bn to as little as $18.9bn. Countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France have also announced cuts.
Health organisations warn the reductions threaten vaccination campaigns, HIV treatment and other services in low-income countries around the world.
Join Tearfund's Mary Gaitho, Tearfund’s International Program Director and ActionAid's Executive Director Michelle Higelin to hear how their organisations are responding to the cuts in international aid by the US, UK and Europe.
The online event will be hosted by Ethinvest. After our experts' presentations, there will be time for questions and a discussion with our online attendees. This event will be recorded, and those interested can watch via a direct link after the event.
